KAY WINTERS

I followed my dreams and they came true!

I began my career as a classroom teacher and then a college instructor. Now I’m a children’s book author with a dozen books to my credit.  You can find my poetry, early chapter, and picture books for younger and older children, in schools, libraries, and bookstores. I was a consultant for the American International Schools in Egypt, India, Nepal, Italy, Jordan, Israel and Greece, giving workshops for teachers and children. My love of adventure was fed by riding a horse around the pyramids, having lunch with a Buddhist lama in Nepal, and going on an elephant trek in Thailand. I reviewed children’s books for the Reading Teacher but always the dream persisted. I wanted to write children’s books. Now the happiest moments in my career are the days when a new book arrives and I see how the artist has brought my words to life!

Check out my website www.kaywinters.com for more details and pictures about my books and my visits.

Author Visits

My books and school visits are best suited for children in grades K-6. My program is interactive, educational and entertaining, with lively audience participation and performance throughout each assembly. My books range in age appeal from 4 years to 12, tie in with school curriculum and lend themselves to writing and performing activities.  Did You See What I Saw? Poems about School, serves as a model for student writing both in subject matter and format. My Teacher for President prompts children share why a teacher they know should be president. For older students teachers use this book as an example of persuasive writing. Abe Lincoln: The Boy who Loved Books, tells how books changed Lincoln’s life, and he changed ours. The Teeny Tiny Ghost books are favorites with all ages. Sometimes parents create their own ghost and hide it in the school while the students write about what would frighten the little ghost if he came to visit. Voices of Ancient Egypt is often used as a Reader’s Theater with older students. Because I was a teacher, I love coming back to schools. It feels like coming home.
