Author Visits
With questions to keep kids guessing, stories to make them laugh, and insights to spark their dreams, Pamela Jane illustrates the inspiration for her ideas and her books in her school assembly program. Pamela’s slide show is an up-close and very personal look at her life as an author, her childhood, and some of the funny ways her imagination got her into trouble growing up (it wasn’t always considered a gift!) During her program, Pamela discusses the powerful magic of “What if…?” and how a writer finds the inner voice that is his or hers alone.
“We consider Pamela Jane the most student-oriented author we have hosted to date… Pamela masterfully draws her own life into her talk with slides of herself as a child and young adult, and with explanations of how she finds her story ideas in real life.” Alice H. Kurtas, Reading Specialist, Perkiomen Valley So. Elementary School.
In addition to the assembly program, Pamela Jane offers the following workshops:
Time for Rhyme (Grades K - 2)
As the author of eight rhyming picture books, Pamela helps students choose a theme and write a rhyming book together. A lively and fun-filled workshop.
Tales and Tails (Grades 2 - 4)
Some of the most colorful and mischievous characters in Pamela Jane’s books are birds, dogs, moose, and monkeys. The Winky Blue series is about a parakeet whose owner, Rose, wants him to be a star like the famous collie, Lassie. In this workshop, students create a story based on a real or imaginary animal and let their imaginations go wild!
Hard Facts for Tall Tales: A Writing Research Workshop (Grades 3 - 6)
How could a parakeet save a gerbil from falling off the top of the Empire State Building? What would happen if a monkey got loose in the school cafeteria? How does a magician make a bird disappear? And what happens if he can’t get the bird back again? Research is one of the most exciting aspects of writing. Find out how to find out almost everything in Pamela’s research workshop.
Writing for Kids (Younger than You!) (Grades 5 - 6)
Older students step into the shoes of a children’s book author by creating a spooky, silly, or sleepy-time story for a special little person in their lives.
“The writing workshops provided a great opportunity for our students to specifically use some of the writing techniques you presented. …I believe your program will become a significant memory in many of their own lives!” –– Sheryl S. Solow, Ed. D., Principal, Colonial School District
