WENDY PFEFFER

Wendy comes by writing naturally. Her grandfather was a dermatologist and an author. Her father was a math professor who also lectured on the origin of words and phrases. Her love of words, science, nature, and young children led Wendy to write children’s science books. Several have won the “Best Science Book of the Year” award.

A few of her titles are From Tadpole to Frog, What’s It Like To Be A Fish, A Log’s Life, Dolphin Talk, The Shortest Day: Celebrating the Winter Solstice, and A New Beginning: Celebrating the Spring Equinox.

Wendy was delighted teaching elementary school children, but now writes full time. She visits schools, teaches children and adults to write, conducts college literature classes, and thoroughly enjoys researching science topics.

She is a member of the Bucks County Authors of Books for Children, Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, The Authors Guild, and Savvy Marketers.

Author Visits

Wendy Pfeffer, author of over 30 children’s books, would like to visit your school to help your students discover the joy of writing.  By sharing her real-life entertaining and informative tales, she hopes children will be inspired to write by realizing how much fun and fulfillment she has had writing.

Wendy presents age-appropriate interactive programs for children in Grades K to 5, showing how her books progress from the original idea, to the research procedure, the editor’s desk, the illustrator’s easel, and finally to the delight of seeing her words in print.

Children learn that authors write and rewrite many times, after researching at the library and the internet, then interviewing experts, many times after traveling to the site.  A typical day usually consists of two 20 - 25 minute kindergarten sessions and three 45 minute programs for the other grades.

She also teaches writing workshops to students, including narrative non-fiction workshops.  Many children do not realize what narrative non-fiction is, but after an hour workshop, they write amazing narrative non-fiction stories. Wendy provides a structure which allows each child to be creative.

Wendy would enjoy meeting with your children to stir their interest in reading, writing, and researching.  Feel free to call her with any questions, to discuss the program, or to schedule a visit.

Wendy Pfeffer's recipe for a nonfiction book:

                                           Mix:
                                              many hours of research,
                                              an oversized interest in science,
a huge helping of action words,
                                              one colossal curiosity about nature,
and a lot of love for children.
Put into computer until well done.
